Guided part and driving part
In general, linear technology can be divided into a guided part and a driving part, and both can be combined in one.
The guided part can be rails with runner blocks or shafts with ball bushings. Several different designs of housings with bushings are available, both as single and tandem. There are also miniature rails and runner blocks, which are used for light loads and compact installation dimensions, and where precision of the guided part is still required.
The driven part can be a ball screw or a planetary roller screw. The driven part with balls is likewise available in miniature and for medium forces, and if we move up to very large forces, a screw with planetary rollers can reach forces comparable to hydraulics.
For use in the food industry there are rails and runner blocks designed for this purpose, but there is also a version of a mechanical cylinder that can replace pneumatic cylinders and which can furthermore be positioned with great precision.
The combined part of guide and driving part is called modules. They come in several designs depending on the forces required and can be designed as a standard version or as a compact version. These can be combined into gantries with X-Y-Z axes.
